The invasion of the hedgehogs.

In 2002 hedgehogs were introduced onto a small island off the west coast of Scotland. Hedgehogs had never lived there before and nobody thought they would have much impact on the island. However, they were wrong. In months, the hedgehogs had grown enormously in number. Now there are thousands of them and they have completely changed the balance of nature on the island. They eat almost anything, including birds eggs and some species of birds have almost disappeared. Originally people thought that the problem would be confined to only one island, but when the tide is low the hedgehogs turn into tourists and cross the sand to visit other islands. The final result could be a whole group of Scottish islands infested by hedgehogs!

Through the looking glass

Through the looking glass
Lewis Carroll (1832-1898)

To the Looking-Glass world it was Alice that said...

To the Looking-Glass world it was Alice that said
"I've a sceptre in hand, I've a crown on my head.
Let the Looking-Glass creatures, whatever they be
Come and dine with the Red Queen, the White Queen, and me!"'

And hundreds of voices joined in the chorus:

`Then fill up the glasses as quick as you can,
And sprinkle the table with buttons and bran:
Put cats in the coffee, and mice in the tea--
And welcome Queen Alice with thirty-times-three!'

Then followed a confused noise of cheering, and Alice thought to herself `Thirty times three makes ninety. I wonder if any one's counting?' In a minute there was silence again, and the same shrill voice sang another verse:

`"O Looking-Glass creatures," quoth Alice, "draw near!
`Tis an honour to see me, a favour to hear:
`Tis a privilege high to have dinner and tea
Along with the Red Queen, the White Queen, and me!"'

Then came the chorus again:

`Then fill up the glasses with treacle and ink,
Or anything else that is pleasant to drink:
Mix sand with the cider, and wool with the wine--
And welcome Queen Alice with ninety-times-nine!'

Venid y acercaros a mí!

Through the looking glass

Through the looking glass
Lewis Carroll (1832-1898)

Hush-a-by lady, in Alice's lap...

Hush-a-by lady, in Alice's lap!
Till the feast's ready, we've time for a nap.
When the feast's over, we'll go to the ball--
Red Queen, and White Queen, and Alice, and all!

Granny and the wolf

Now well we will begin to translate some poems. We hope that you like

Granny and the wolf
Howard Camner (1957)

Alone in the woods
Leftover from a fairy tale
Granny prepares meals for a wolf
But he will not eat her cooking
It's nothing personal
It's just that she doesn't understand his
nature
she doesn't understand his needs
And as Granny slaves over a hot stove
the wolf wanders around outside, catches
her scent,
tracks her down, pounces on her, and eats
her alive
that is his naturethose are his needs
It's nothing personal

La abuela y el lobo

Sola en el bosque
sobra de un cuento de hadas
La abuela prepara comidas para un lobo
Pero el lobo no comerá su comida
No es un asunto personal
Sino simplemente que ella no entiende su
naturaleza
ella no entiende sus necesidades
Y mientras la abuela se afana sobre la
cocina caliente
el lobo camina por los alrededores, la
olfatea,
la localiza, se lanza sobre ella y se la come
viva
ésta es su naturaleza
éstas son sus necesidades
Nada personal

Is salmon dangerous?

Next time you are a delicious salmon steak, should you be worrying about the quality of the fish, rather than the cost? Salomon has been in the news recently for several different reasons…

Fishermen on America’s West Coast are extremely concerned about a new genetically altered species of “super-salmon”. Critics are calling it the “Frankenfish” (Frankenstein) because they believe the super-salmon, which is marketed as an inexpensive and healthy source of protein for human, could wipe out normal salmon by eating them or breeding with them.
Concern is growing due to as Us Food and Drug Administration (FDA) study that will focus on whether species like these should be released into the wild. The US National Academy of Sciences is also working on another study into biological methods of cofining the super-salmon, for example making some of fish sterile.

The Age of Cloning.

Some people think that the world is becoming a very different and dangerous place. Every day scientists improve the technique of cloning, making perfect copies of living creatures.
Maybe the most famous example was the world’s first clone, Dolly the sheep. She was born in 1997. The news made headlines across the world because many people had believed something as complex as a sheep could never be cloned. It took hundreds of attempts to produce Dolly and, even now, the cloning process is far from perfect.

In 2003, she died after developing a lung disease. Just over a year before she dead, she developed arthritis, a disease that could have been caused by the cloning process. Until then, she had seemed very well and had given birth to four healthy lambs. Scientist at the Roslin Institute say lung infections are common in older sheep, so her death may mean nothing at all.
Or, maybe it is significant.

This problem worries scientists because even clones which appear healthy may in fact have genetic abnormalities. Indeed, it seems that Dolly may have grown old prematurely. Under normal circumstances, sheep can live for 10 too 16 years so taken from 6 she was relatively young. She was created using DNA taken from a 6 years old sheep and for this reason she possibly aged faster than normal.

Mobile phones are good thing.

Mobile phones are very popular these days. My mobile is black and silver.
Some people support mobile phones and some people are against them.
In general, I believe that they are a good thing.
There are some arguments against using mobile phones. For example, some people believe they are dangerous for your health. In addition, there are times when you don’t really want people to phone you at all and with a mobile you can never escape phone calls. Moreover, it’s easy to lose a mobile phone or for someone to steal it from your pocket.
However, there are lots of reasons for using mobiles. In the first place, they are very convenient. You can phone people when and were you want. You can get different covers for your friends as well. Some phones also have digital cameras in them and you can take photos with them and send these pictures to other mobiles phones.
To sum up, although there are a number of arguments against people using mobile phones, I am personally in favour of them.

The future of Music.

Moby, an American music star, believes that the music industry and music itself will soon change beyond recognition.

The way in which music is created is changing, thanks to the digital revolution. In the past, to make a successful song, a musician spent a lot of time in an expensive recording studio with lost of high-tech audio gear. Now the vast majority of recordings are made on computers. Technology is progressing at such a pace that it is now possible to make a great piece of music on a cheap laptop using software worth 500 euros.

The implications of this are staggering. Why would someone pay money for a new dance record if they can make a better dance record themselves on their lunch break? And why would an up and coming musician want to get involved with a record company when they can make a piece of music on their laptop 5 minutes later have it on their website for anyone to hear? The only requirement for success, then, is talent.

"I had imagined I could meet David Beckham".

I had imagined I could meet David Beckham. David Beckham came to Seville with English famous person
Firstly I went to the hotel where the English football team was installed.
